Creating Courses in Learnt
One of the Learnt platform’s core features is the ability to create courses that can consist of one or multiple activities. These courses can be tailored to different groups of learners. We want to help you create courses that are well-structured, efficient, and engaging. This guide will provide you with the necessary tools to navigate the course creation process so that you can deliver educational materials effectively and captivate your learners.
Navigate to Admin Courses on the side navigation menu under Admin → Admin Courses.
This page displays all courses created on the platform. The table provides an overview of the publication status, creation date, bundle status, category, and relevant tags.
To upload a new course, select the 'Add New Course' button on the top right corner of the page.
The next step to creating a course is inputting the course details, see a detailed list below of the mandatory details required:
- Name: Name of course
- Description: Provide a description of the course for the learners.
- Summary: If you intend to list the course on the Learnt Marketplace website, provide a concise description of the course. Otherwise, skip this step.
- Category: Choose the relevant category from the dropdown menu. This helps learners filter content on the 'My Courses' page.
- Tag: Select an applicable tag from the dropdown menu for further content organisation on the 'My Courses' page
Once the mandatory details have been provided, you can choose to enable additional features for the course. Please note, these options are optional and can be skipped if not applicable.
- Bundle: A bundle is a collection of content that shares the same course framework, including activities and sections. However, it will not appear in the "My Courses" section but rather in the "My Bundles" section. Also, it will not affect mandatory training reporting.
- Certificate: Select if this course should issue a certificate upon completion. For further information on certificates, please refer to the article in our help centre.
- Course Refresh: This checkbox relates to course progress resetting, also known as course refreshing for further information and guidance please refer to our help article.
- Optional Learning: Optional learning refers is the ability for administrators to define whether a course is part of a learners required training, if not, select this option and the learner can register for and complete that course outside of mandatory training.
- Discussion: Ticking on discusiion will allow communications between the learner and administrators within the Course Player page.
Lastly, within the course details section, you will be required to upload a thumbnail for the course. This thumbnail serves as the visual representation to be displayed alongside the course title on the "My Courses" page of the platform.
To move to the next step and add course materials, select the 'course content' tab on the top menu bar of the page:
The course framework is divided into sections, within each section you can add multiple activities, which allows for a structured organisation of the course.
Select 'Add Section' you will then be prompted to provide this new section with a title before proceeding.
Once a section has been added, an activity box will appear for you to add activities to the course:
For each activity, provide a name and brief description. Then, choose the resource type and select the desired resource from the list. Once selected, you can then add the activity to the course.
Repeat this step of adding activities until all desired sections and activities have been added. Once completed, click the Save button located on the top right of the page.
Once the course is saved, assign permissions and select learners who can access it by navigating to the ‘permissions’ tab in the top menu bar.
Click the + button to start adding permissions. Once selected, an accordion with the permission details will appear.
The permission details will be based on the user profile fields which are set up during your onboarding. If you have any questions regarding the profile fields, please feel free to contact our helpdesk. To proceed, please select the values from the desired profile fields.
If you want to create another set of permissions, click the + button and repeat the previous step for the new accordion item. Once you’re done, select the ‘Apply Permissions’ button.
Please note, permissions within a single accordion operate in an AND relationship. For instance, learners must meet both LOC1 and POSITION criteria to access the course. However, when you add multiple permission accordion tabs, they function in an OR relationship. For example, if you set LOC1 = "Sydney" in the first tab and then, by clicking the + button, add POSITION = Sales Manager in the second tab, it implies that learners with either a LOC1 value of Sydney OR a position of Sales Manager will have access to the course.
The final step is to click SAVE AND PUBLISH to push the course out to the permitted users. Once completed, your course is now live and ready to go.
